Phyworks Announces the Availability of the Worlds Most Advanced 10GBASE-LRM Receiver Solution

Phyworks Ltd, the award winning analog and mixed signal semiconductor specialist and leading supplier of integrated circuits (ICs) for the communications industry, announced today they are showcasing their highly anticipated PHY1060 Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) IC and PHY1090 Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA) at OFC/NFOEC, stand 1226, Anaheim, California, March 7-9, 2006.

Phyworks is the only company in the world to offer the complete 10GBASE-LRM receiver IC solution. The entire receiver chain, consisting of a TIA, EDC and Clock and Data Recovery (CDR), is implemented in two devices which are targeted at 10Gbps XENPAK, X2 and XFP LRM applications.

The PHY1060 is an advanced receiver which integrates the receive path CDR with an extremely robust EDC circuit, achieving unparalleled performance with fully automatic on-chip adaptation algorithms, making it extremely easy to use. These compensate for intersymbol interference caused by signal dispersion, increasing fiber or copper trace transmission distances. Boasting low power and low signal latency, the PHY1060 includes accurate on-chip PRBS generation and BERT measurement functions.

The PHY1060 is complemented by the PHY1090, a highly linear Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA), offering unprecedented cost and performance in legacy enterprise fiber applications. The PHY1090 TIA employs innovative design techniques to deliver a low noise, high linearity output over the entire LRM optical dynamic range, maximizing available EDC link margin.

Phyworks has been prominent in the development of 10GBASE-LRM, with Nicholas Weiner Phyworks’ CTO, being the appointed editor of IEEE 10GBASE-LRM standard.

Stephen King, Phyworks’ CEO said, “Our close participation in the development of LRM and our work in designing very complicated mixed signal circuits and implementing in digital CMOS has really paid off for the entire industry. We have the most advanced EDC, integrating CDR functionality and we can demonstrate LRM performance in a very low cost, simple to use, low power and small package.”

Additionally King states, “These are our first products designed to support sub $200 10Gbps optical modules for enterprise applications. ICs will not be the bottle neck in achieving this goal. We will continue to address all IC requirements for 10Gbps to further reduce chip count, power and cost, the full promise of LRM is finally here.”

Availability and Pricing The PHY1060 and PHY1090 are available to developers of XENPAK, X2 and XFP LRM optical modules. Volume pricing is less than $55 for the pair.

Phyworks evaluation boards, reference designs, Graphical User Interface and pace setting customer support is available for qualified customers. Please contact Phyworks for further information.
