Phyworks Wins European Electronic Industry Award

Bristol, UK, September 28, 2005. Phyworks, the advanced optical networking semiconductor specialist, has won the Research and Development category of the European Electronics Industry Awards 2005 (Elektra 2005). The awards ceremony was held in London on 27th September, and attended by over six hundred professionals from the electronics field representing companies from a wide cross section of the industry. Phyworks’ CMOS integrated circuit (IC) technology, designed to address transmission limitations in high-speed multi-mode fiber local area networks, was submitted into this awards category.

Entries in the R & D category were required to demonstrate not only an original concept, but also practical development and implementation of an electronics technology. An independent panel of judges was drawn from pioneering companies and organizations from within the industry, such as 3i, Agilent Technologies, Analog Devices, Motorola and Sony. The judges considered how the submissions addressed a specific technical challenge and real-world commercial applicability in addition to originality of technology. It was judged that Phyworks’ PHY1060 10Gbit/s IC best addressed these challenges from a commendable shortlist of entrants.
